Does switching consumer electronic goods like DVD players on and off at the the plug damage them?

We’re told it’s better for the environment if we switch TVs, DVD players, Hi-Fi systems etc off at the plug socket rather than setting them to standby. Can doing this (perhaps several times a day) damage the electrical components inside them?

Can starting a car without the electronic chip key ruin something?

Tried to start my Dodge Stratus last night with the key that doesn’t have the electronic chip in it (lost my other keys and wasnt thinking). Car didnt start obviously I tried several times until I realized that was why. Found the other key and car started up fine and ran. I turned it off and came inside and now this morning the car won’t start. Could I have ruined something? :(
I went out and locked and unlocked the doors, then tried to start it and no luck. Security light was not on, so I tried it again while in the car. I got the car to try to turn over this time and pumped the gas and got it going! It ran fine – drove it around and turned it off again and restarted perfectly. THANK YOU!!!!!
